I've posted on here about being massive already at 26+4. Saw the midwife today and she had a experience of my belly and said "Ooh she is a big baby!" and noted down that she was the size of a 28 weeks baby.
I'm scheduled to have a growth scan next week anyway, (ironically because a wanker of a doctor didnt believe i had stopped smoking so was worried the babe volition be small
) so volition know for certain and then, only should I exist worried? Does this hateful she will definitely exist a whopper? How accurate is this as the midwife just had a feel and didn't mensurate anything?
Likewise I have felt kicks up really high and already experience her kicking my ribs at the side which made me call back she was big anyway. Will they change my due date if the browse shows she is massive? Anyone else had this then had a normal size babe? Sorry well-nigh all the questions, only feeling a bit worried now.

my dc was nigh two-three weeks bigger than expected and was 9lbs seven when built-in so not small simply non huge...your growth scan will give you a ameliorate idea simply loads of things can affect how large your bump messures like how the baby is lay, how good the midwife is doing the measuring etc. I was measured by two midwives in one day and the difference they got with my bump size was 3cms. then try not to worry besides much

It's not a good way to tell the size of your babe. Both pregnancies I had a growth scan considering I was measuring a few weeks small and my babies were both normal sized, I only hid them well. The growth scan will give you a amend idea.

With my dd I was measuring two and three weeks ahead between twenty and 30 weeks, virtually midwives said I was big and questioned repeatedly if it was twins.
Information technology evened out in the final trimester and was only a week or and so ahead of dates when giving nativity.
However it was all h2o, my dd was the smallest of my three children at 7lb3oz. Then despite giving me the about stretch marks and the hugest bump, she was petite.
Fifty-fifty growth scans can be very misleading. So please do not worry, all is nigh likely to be fine, definitely no demand to worry.

I don't go past measuring tbh its totally inaccurate. My first I was measuring slightly above, he was 2wk late n 6ib 8. My 2nd was measuring either bang on at some or simply slightly under at others. He was on fourth dimension and 9ib and my bump was tiny, they always said when they felt him he's effectually same size every bit your last. He wasn't. This fourth dimension I was 2wks ahead at 28wks, 1 week behind at 32wks and bang on at 35 xx

I wouldn't worry about it. The midwives I encountered barely seemed to know anything beyond which orifice the baby should emerge from.
HeffalumpTheFlump Thu 11-Jul-13 15:37:55
Thanks so much for your replies. She didn't really exercise a fundal height measurement, then information technology was all from feeling my bump? Would she actually be able to tell similar this? If she is big does it mean she volition come early?
TheFalconsmistress Thu 11-Jul-13 fifteen:46:27
I am measuring 6 weeks alee atm but i am a big daughter when i got scanned for not motility she was measuring 4 weeks alee in the breadbasket and 2 in the head only they were non concerned at all they said they would simply be concerned if she was measuring small so endeavor not to worry big babies are skillful and MW said no reason to think they would be early.
HeffalumpTheFlump Thu 11-Jul-xiii 16:12:55
Give thanks you then much, good to know I don't demand to panic if she is a bit big! I will just accept to await until next calendar week to notice out at the growth scan. Thanks again
TinkyPeet Thu 11-Jul-13 16:xviii:15
my bump is measuring xi cms ahead now. I'grand 39 weeks tomorrow. You can imagine the quite comical mound sticking out of my front...lol.
Then far I have had fortnightly growth scans. And on Tuesday but gone baby is measuring at 8lb.
Don't worry about information technology
ten

Tinky that'due south really reassuring to hear, thank you!
TarkaTheOtter Thu 11-Jul-13 xviii:42:19
Neither fundal height or growth scans are accurate in my experience. My "large" babe was born 7lbs.
IBelieveInPink Thu 11-Jul-13 18:53:44
Just a word of alert ( not meant to scare you at all, just trying to raise awareness) please make sure if you are measuring over they requite you all the scans you need. My sister was measuring over, they told her they wouldn't let her become overdue. Then they let her go ii weeks over, with no growth browse or anything. She didnt know to push for a scan as information technology was first baby. Baby was over 11lb, and labour.... wasnt fun.
Obviously this will not happen to you every bit they are already giving you a scan which is dandy
just trying to encourage people to get checked if they are worried nearly something!
Hope the scan puts your heed at residuum
(I volition also be asking for one!!)
Rowboat Thu 11-Jul-13 19:32:28
i measured over and was predicted a big united nations. Dd was 8lb fourteen so not tiny. merely not the 10lber they kept saying. She was very long and is all the same tall and slender. In fact she shot out in one case I started pushing! I retrieve none of it is an exact science and the Sunday elevation measurement specially inaccurate. Wait and see what the scan says but even so accept it with a small compression of salt.
Rowboat Thu 11-Jul-13 nineteen:33:33
fundal not Lord's day. sigh. as well meant to say ny growth scans predicted the 10lber.
missesjellybean Thu 11-Jul-13 19:34:20
yes that'south a good signal my dc was estimated to be a big baby but he was really alpine besides..think he was 2ft when he was built-in...wonder if that'south why some people have huge bumps n non so huge babies?
HeffalumpTheFlump Thu 11-Jul-xiii xx:19:22
That would make sense near her possibly existence really long. My mum told me that I was a very long baby, not bug just very long. Information technology would exist lovely if she just shoots out!!

podgymumma Thu eleven-Jul-thirteen 22:xviii:04
My large baby was 6lbs 4oz!!
babyhmummy01 Thu 11-Jul-thirteen 23:24:01
Heffa the mw tin can't tell in weeks how big baby us or isn't without measuring you so she is existence a twit.
HeffalumpTheFlump Thu eleven-Jul-13 23:32:35
I did think it was a fleck odd that she decided I was measuring 28 weeks without actually doing any measuring
I'm non a midwife though so I assumed she must be able to tell somehow?? Oh well we will run into if she has magical measuring hands when I take my scan next calendar week!!
babyhmummy01 Friday 12-Jul-xiii 00:21:24
I think they just guess mate, mine religiously measures me every fourth dimension, and even ignoring the flab she is measuring my crash-land at 34cm which is spot on for 34wks pg. Notwithstanding its but ever a guide, but real way is the scan.
I want a growth scan merely so I can see her lol, have half-dozen weeks til I get to meet her and am growing very impatient
HeffalumpTheFlump Fri 12-Jul-13 x:10:57
Thank you babyh! Aww anoint, it's not long now! I have to say even though the dr was a complete and utter knobber I was secretly pleased to go 3 extra scans! I think by the end of this pg my whole family will have seen infant! DH works for a not very understanding employer so ofttimes can't come to appointments so I'thou taking a dissimilar family member/ friend each time
giddywithglee Fri 12-Jul-thirteen 10:xvi:xx
Both my bumps measured 1-2 wks ahead at some signal then a few wks afterwards they measured the right number of weeks. Babies accept growth spurts, even in the womb!
but because I'k tall my bump always looked small - the new community midwife asked me if my first baby was a normal size when she saw me at 38 wks (my beginning was 8lb 8.5ozs) considering she idea my bump looked and then small. When DS2 arrived two wks later he was 8lb thirteen ozs.

I'g measuring a couple of weeks ahead - and midwife had a feel and thinks the same (and I exercise feel more uncomfortable earlier than last time) - just I merely can't bring myself to believe that the measurements are that accurate - they all just take a quick rummage and declare a measurement.
I can abound my measurement a good ii cm just by tensing my stomach to go far stick out more than, then if they measure me at the end of the twenty-four hours, or after a long walk (it tends to get quite tense then) and then I wouldn't be surprised at it being bigger than if they measured me first matter in the morning when everything'south relaxed.
Growth scans are also notoriously inaccurate (I can't notice a link, just didn't I read that something ridiculous like 50% of them are a pound out?).
I think these things are groovy for catching babies that are minor, but pretty poor for detecting bigguns.
